Amid today’s divisive rhetoric and Birmingham’s fractured past, Red Mountain Theatre is working to spark world-changing conversations – one individual at a time. Through great art, they explore issues and emotions too difficult for mere words. This exploration opens us to consider the life of another – our fellow man. Red Mountain Theatre presented four new pieces at the 2021 Human Rights New Works Festival: Memorial, True North, Survivors, and Bar Mitzvah in Birmingham.
TRUE NORTH was honored to partner with Mitchell’s Place, a Birmingham organization that specializes in improving the lives of children affected by autism and other developmental disabilities.
About Mitchell’s Place (from their website):
Mitchell’s Place specializes in improving the lives of children affected by autism and other developmental disabilities. We use quality diagnostic, educational and therapeutic services provided by highly skilled therapy teams to unlock each child’s potential. These teams work to remediate social, communicative, adaptive and academic functioning while simultaneously reducing and decelerating maladaptive behavior.
At Michell’s Place, we employ highly qualified and caring therapists, analysts and teachers to implement each child’s treatment and instruction. We provide accurate and on-going assessment to create individualized and comprehensive treatment plans. In addition, we empower our parents with the specific skills essential to support their child’s learning. Together, with dedicated parents and families, we are committed to unlocking each child’s potential with the aim of improving the quality of life for our clients and families.
Mitchell’s Place values diversity, equality, equity, and inclusion. We believe that no student, staff, family member or visitor should be treated differently based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability status, socioeconomic status, political opinions, or religious affiliation. We are committed to making diversity, equality, equity and inclusion a cultural norm by creating a climate of mutual respect within and outside the walls of Mitchell’s Place.
