Orlando audiences will be the first to see a brand-new Christmas musical as “True North” has its first developmental production here with hopes of an eventual run on Broadway.
In a season traditionally full of “A Christmas Carol” and “The Nutcracker” productions, “True North” stands out for its original premise and characters: A young boy on the autism spectrum is challenged by the holiday season as he and his sister grieve their mother, who died recently. Meanwhile, their military-man father has a secret mission that involves the North Pole. And all of them could use a dash of the magic of Christmas.
TRUE NORTH is “a movingly entertaining look at one family that somehow speaks for all of us. This is a musical for our post-COVID times, when we— and that includes children—have been affected by separation and loss and now want to find ways to reconnect, both through traditions and new ways of seeing the world.” ~Matthew Palm, Orlando Sentinel
